Crystal growers are used to for heating galium arsinide, synthetic rubies, and other crystalin materials in a zirconium or platinum crucible to 950° and higher. The primary use of crystal growers is the pulling of galium arsenide crystals for the laser and IC industries. A crystal grower is designed to have a very accurate control system to maintain temperature within ±3°C for a period of up to 6 weeks continous. Any variance greater than this is the difference between a good crystal and a bad one. Pillar has been suppling equipment for this application since 1981. We developed our first design as part of the Crystal Grower line as a 50 kW 10 kHz Crystal Grower. These have been a secessful and popular line for us. We then developed in 1985 a 30 kW 10Khz Crystal Grower for smaller growth applications. The application required the following additions to the basic system.

Precision Power Control Circuitry

Coil Current Control

UPS or Autostart for Control Circuitry

Coil Current Feedback

4 to 20 mA Control

Secialized Output Configuration

Line Monitor Circuitry

Integral Heat Station

”Spinworks, LLC has purchased a Pillar Mark 11, 100 kW, 50 kHz Induction Power Supply. To date, the power supply has been in operation for six months with no major problems. Initially there were a few justified issues with the unit, due to being a used power supply, but Pillar has been very helpful with all repairs. Everything has been taken care of in a timely manner and covered under warranty.

All of the personnel we have dealt with at Pillar have been very helpful. Engineering did an excellent job of matching one of their machines to our needs and designing the induction coil to match our current process. The representative that set the machine up did a great job of explaining everything and answering all of our questions. The set-up went very well and was done in about a day. The continuing support has exceeded our expectations.

Spinworks looks forward to a continued relationship with Pillar. Our company is currently researching more systems for R&D purposes as well as future expansion into production units.”

“When you asked me why I decided to purchase Pillar Induction’s equipment vs. the other suppliers I had looked at, I found that selecting your company as the builder of our Induction hardening machine was easy.

Working with your sales staff and engineering gave us the confidence that Pillar will provide a system for LuK that meets our specifications. This is essential for a success and future growth of LuK as a major automotive supplier.

We viewed Pillar Induction as a solution minded company that provided a complete arsenal of engineered solutions. From the beginning, Pillar offered us met lab development and testing, short run part processing for pre-ppap qualifying.

The use of conceptual 3-D machine modeling and detailed engineering drawings that we could review early in the design of the equipment provided improved communications and saved time. In fact, Pillar’s project management worked with us throughout the entire project from design through machine runoff and installation at our facility.

In the end Pillar’s engineering staff took a single Induction heat treating concept and designed it into a multi stage process that included part loading, hardening, tempering, and wash down cooling in a single “Turn-Key‿ machine.

Since the system was install in 2005, LuK has processed nearly three quarters of a million parts and I’m presently looking forward to the million part anniversary sometime in mid summer 2007.

LuK’s operations demands fast responding solutions to any type of machine problems that may occur. I can confidently say your service department has delivered and most times gone above and beyond to ensure a satisfactory solution to the problem.

Today we are happy to have learned that Pillar Induction provides global product support and we are looking forward to working with you and your engineers to provide equipment for our operations in the Pacific Rim countries.”

Sincerely,

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for the assistance you have provided to my company over the previous two months. As you are aware, we have been experiencing serious difficulties with our spin cast induction process. This process is critical for Jostens to ensure that our high quality standards are met with consistency and repeatability.

As Facilities Manager, I was assigned that task of improving the performance of the spin cast operation. To date, this has been a daunting task. We have made numerous and costly modifications to our current induction power supply and have realized very little in the way of improvement. After having worked with you and the other members of the Pillar team, we are confident that we have finally found a solution to our problem.

I appreciate your willingness to allow us to evaluate your equipment at our facility. This has been a critical part of our success. I would also like to thank you for the support that you have provided throughout this process. I look forward to completing our evaluation and replacing our current power supplies with the Pillar units. It will definitely save me numerous headaches as we approach our busy season.”

Thanks again for your assistance,
