Uses an induction "frequency converter" to create an EMF barrier around a casting mold so that the molten metal does not touch the sides of the mold, yet when chilled is the same shape as the mold. This process results in a smooth, ready to roll surface finish.

EMC offers significant cost and productivity advantages compared to Direct Contact or DC Casting where the molten metal contacts the sides of the mold and requires subsequent processing in order to provide the smooth surface required to enter the rolling mill.
